These are some images that are inspiring
a new series that I have started.

Yep, that's pretty much how it's going to look.
Chris Day recently answered some questions that I emailed him about. I find his work very inspiring, even more so after speaking with him. I would like to sincerely thank him again for this interview and I hope that anyone visiting here takes the time to read this and look closely at his work.

Hello Philip,
Thanks for getting in touch with me. I hope I can provide some satisfactory answers for these questions.

First, could you tell me a little bit about your work process? Do you use a computer or is your work all done by hand? What inspires the subject matter and what decisions do you make in arranging things?

Normally my process begins with an image. The images I use in my work are derived from equal parts collection, recollection, and psychic perception. I try to think very simply in terms of addition and subtraction. I follow self-imposed rules and if I break the rule I remember that rules are made to be broken.
My design philosophy always boils down to 2 basic principles:
1. Make it by hand
2. 99% of the time, the wrong way is the right way.
Everything is produced by hand without the aid of computers. I draw with pens and brushes. I collage with scissors and glue.

I prefer to work with books. I use the book as a tool for narrative implication. Despite the fact that I try to see my creative process in uncomplicated terms, my drawings are often flooded with many seemingly incongruent plots and ideas; the book provides a format to collect and unify these dissimilar elements while enhancing the clarity and experience of the overarching narrative. The book provides progress where a single image cannot.

What other work or hobbies do you have? Do they influence your artwork and vice versa?

I have created or continue to create sound through various outlets, including but not limited to: Witch Hat, B & P, Vlonde, Ohtel Life, Pink Snakes, Prelay, and Lost Ghosts Records. I also co-run Open Space Baltimore, am an active member of Closed Caption Comics, and recently started a small-scale screen-printing business.
Working collaboratively on many of these projects tends to broaden my horizons and the back-and-forth of the collaboration is an extremely generative process. At the same time, having all of these outlets allows my visual work to be more focused. I can strain all of my ideas through these separate projects like a sieve and keep the most refined ideas for my personal work.

If there is anything else that you would like to share about your work then please do.

I make my work because it is what I want to do.
